Notre-Dame du Laus : spiritual catholic centre

Tradition has it that the Virgin Mary appeared for the first time to the shepherd Benoîte Rencurel in May 1664. During the next apparitions she asked for the building of a church and a house for the priests in the hamlet of Laus, in order to attract Christians wishing to convert. Benoîte died at the age of 71, generally recognized as a saint for the fervour of his prayer, his patience and his gentleness towards the pilgrims and his obedience to the Church.

Today the sanctuary has become the spriritual centre of the Gap diocese, a meeting place of rest and reflection, officially approved for its Marian apparitions by the Church on 4 May 2008. Today Notre-Dame du Laus is one of the most important places of pilgrimage in France, a place where you will find the rich cultural heritage of the Hautes-Alpes, such as in Boscodon and Embrun.
