Ecrins National Park

The Barre des Écrins with its 4102 m altitude is the highest point in the Hautes-Alpes. The local history is marked by the achievements of alpine pioneers. Vallouise, Pré de Madame Carle, Ailefroide, Vallon du Fournel are all sites that make the Pays des Écrins the second best mountaineering site just after Chamonix.

The great surroundings have led to the creation of the Écrins National Park in 1973, the largest NP in France.

The Pays des Écrins has two ski resorts : Puy Saint-Vincent, 'Protected by the wind' and Pelvoux-Vallouise ; there are a large number of activities . When the snow has melted, make way for whitewater activities on the Durance river with rafting and kayaking or canoeing . At the Argentière-la-Bessée watersports centre, one of the world’s most popular, many prestigious international competitions take place.Such a beautiful conversion for a former industrial and mining valley, a history that you can discover when visiting the Fournel silvermines, the hydroelectric museum in les Claux or the mountain villages.
