Gîtes and horses
The label 'Horse riding stay' stands for accommodation (Gîte Rural, Bed and Breakfast, Children’s Gîte, stopover Gîte or Farm campsite), registered as “gîtes providing horse-riding facilities” (such as equestrian farms, riding schools, poney clubs and hiking centres).
In order to qualify for this name, the accommodation should meet the following requirements :
Offer the possibility of one or more equestrian activities on the spot, in accordance with current regulations ;
Offer the necessary infrastructure and equipment in accordance with current regulations ;
Must be managed by the owner (or person in charge) who is competent and available ;
Must have a management with officially recognised qualifications ;
Provide horses or ponies that are well adapted to the activities ;
The equestrian activities are meant for either beginner-level riders or experienced riders.
According to the riding ability, “Horse riding stays” can offer hourly riding lessons for teenagers and adults, such as training weeks and beginners or advanced training courses (horse, pony or driving), riding tours whether accompanied or not.
All “Horse riding stays” are equipped with the following facilities:
Accommodation for horses, a a well-maintained and good quality saddlery and riding materials (helmets) ; adapted to the proposed activities,
A map of the neighbourhood with cultural or tourist sites worth visiting and information brochures about the region.
The availability of some books and magazines as well as some educational books on horses,
The provision of hay, food and water for the horses when guests bring their own horse.
According to the activities, there is an inside and outside riding arena, and some signed horse riding runs and longer tracks.
The owner (or person in charge of the gîte) and staff do either have sufficient expertise relevant to equestrian activities or the qualifications required by regulation.
