Cervières, on the Izoard Pass road, consists of thirteen small hamlets and is well known for its large number of chamois. The Guisane Valley joins another pass, the Lautaret : Saint-Chaffrey, Chantemerle-Serre-Chevalier, La-Salle-les-Alpes and Monêtier-les-Bains are all villages offering leisure activities. La Grave and Villar-d’Arène are both in La Meije area.
From La Grave, an old mountaineering village, you can take the cable car and admire the panorama
view at an altitude of 1450 to 3200 m. Villar-d’Arène has not changed a lot and is particularly proud of its tradition of “pain bouilli” (cooked bread).
Les Ecrins National Park ensures the protection of flora and fauna : you will find glaciers, lark trees,
multicoloured meadows, marmots and chamois. Exploring the mountains will lead you to innumerable
activities and places: downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, the “fête du pain” festival, chapels and oratories, ovens and mills and alpine gardens.
